I think I have decided I hate Ain't It Cool News, which is a shame because it was the first movie news website I ever started reading. This has been a long, downward spiral for me but the site has consistently been reporting less and less actual movie news and has tried to rely mostly on exclusives, such as this weeks Q & A with Sylvester Stallone. Eight years ago this might have excited me but now it is just something I would read when I have to pass the time. I'm not sure if my taste changed or if it was their coverage but it just seems that everything they report on is either the ending of modern cinema as we know it or the greatest thing ever. Nothing is just "okay" and the less said about their message boards the better. It is a never ending competition and it seems that once something becomes popular it is no longer good, it has essentially sold out.

Oddly enough, I think the breaking point with me was a commenter over on another website, Hollywood Elsewhere. This person is a regular poster in the comments section and there is something about his writing that rubs me the wrong way, something I feel is indicative of all of AICN. Take this post for example; it was a comment on a new photo from the upcoming Indiana Jones movie. He first of all makes no sense and he also contradicts himself. He loves the casting but hates the franchise? What does it even mean? He makes the grandest of statements but then doesn't back them up. Why is this? To question it is even maddening in itself. Here is the comment.
I love Spielberg and hate to sound like Wells here but the fact of the matter is that Indiana Jones is, was, and always will be OVERRATED. You know what an adventure hero like Dr. Jones is? An action hero with brains instead of balls. The adventure epic is a dead genre (Sahara, anyone?) and I'm afraid Indy 4 will do nothing to revive it. I love the casting of Shia, Blanchett and Winstone but the fact remains that Ford is a shadow of his former self.
That being said, I still enjoy Moriarty's writings over at the site. He seems to be the only person who cars about such things as a point, and punctuation, and actually putting forth a level headed opinion.
